Frequently asked questions

How do I make the most of my candle?

Always make sure that you follow our candle care tips. Straighten the wick before you light it for the first time. Trim the wick with scissors regularly, or before next use when the flame is too high. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time. For container candles, the duration of first burn should be around 3 hours. Wax has memory and if you do not allow for a big enough first melt pool, the candle will start to tunnel. (A thin layer of wax on the walls is ok, the inside of the glass vessel will grow hotter and hotter as the flame descends, and will eventually dissolve the layer of remaining wax.) For zero waste approach, you can collect your leftover wax and jar and give it back to me in exchange for a special deal for your new candle!

How will I receive my candle?

We are currently offering shipping of my products in Belgium, as well as Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. You can choose a Handover in person option for the areas of Brussels - Schuman, Place Luxembourg and Avenue Louise 493 (Café de la Presse). You can pay cash if you pick up your candles in person, and can return leftover wax and get a deal on your next order for zero waste approach.

Can I give you back my leftover wax and jar for zero waste?

Yes! I love this zero waste approach. That is how I started making candles in the first place - by reusing leftover wax, as well as candle and food jars. Feel free to save any leftover wax and jar (you don't have to clean it, I will do that for you), and I will happily give your a special deal on your new candle. We use leftover beeswax to make beeswax tealights.

Can you create custom labels and/or gift packaging for me?

Yes! Our candles are handcrafted from start to finish, labels included. If you want to gift a candle with a unique label, send us an email and we will talk about it. Here's an example of our special add-on label. Note: Currently, we are only able to offer black-and-white labels in small batches.

What does "handcrafted natural candles" mean?

I started repurposing and recycling candles years ago. Then I gradually moved to learning how to make candles from scratch. I've decided to take my hobby to a next level, and now I offer my candles to the people I know and can meet with. This all means that I handpour my candles in small batches. I offer beeswax candles, and a Pure rapeseed line. No each candle is going to be exactly the same, though they will have the same qualities and characteristics. Give them a try and see if you like them. I'm hoping to become your personal candle supplier!

Are you on social media?

Yes! You can follow our Facebook page or Instagram to get an inside scoop on my whole candle making journey. Join me for behind-the-scenes pictures and videos, special events (e.g. charity sale), polls and surveys, and more! You can also follow me on Pinterest, where we have a collection of beautiful candles, candle photography and home decor pictures.

Can I pay cash?

Yes, if you’re available to pick up your product in person. I offer handovers in person in Brussels centre, Schuman, Flagey or Avenue Louise. Just choose Manual payment as your payment method during checkout, and we will schedule time and place for the handover.

Do you offer free shipping?

Free shipping is offered on orders over 60€, in Belgium.

Setting up the Heart of Europe Candle shop has been a big undertaking. It has cost not only a lot of time and effort to get everything running, but also a substantial financial investment.

I love making candles, and I am passionate about this project. I firmly believe that one day my micro business will become so steady that I will be able to offer free shipping in general. In the meantime, I’d like to thank you for your support on this journey!

Can I make a bigger order with custom packaging?

Yes! If you’re considering having handcrafted gifts made for events like weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, graduation parties, retirement celebrations etc., you’re at the right place!

Get in touch with us and we will come up with an offer and a quote for custom-made gift packaging for you, including

  • gift bags/sachets/boxes of your preferred colour or theme,
  • customized note cards to be put inside each package,
  • customized labels to seal the package,
  • bows/ribbons/stickers/decorations that go well with your theme.

My leftover wax is stuck to the holder!

Don't worry, there are ways to get stubborn wax off your candle holder. Try putting it into the freezer for 10 minutes, the wax will shrink and will be easier to separate from the holder. If you have leftover wax in a glass vessel, you have several options:

  • If it is a Heart of Europe Candle, just return the whole vessel to us in exchange for a discount on you next candle!
  • You can also try the above described freezer method (though it may not work if the top of the vessel is narrower than the bottom).
  • Or you can slowly heat up the vessel in an old pot, partly filled with warm/medium hot water. When the wax is melted, pour on a larger piece of baking paper, let cool and peel easily off. Be extra careful! Heat the water up slowly and use oven gloves to handle the hot glass. Alternatively, you can use a candle warmer, if you have one.

Do you ship outside Belgium?

You can have your candles shipped to Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. All shipments are made via BPost or DPD.

Shipping fee for orders going to France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg is 12€ flat rate. If you live in a different country than those listed above, we encourage you to find a local candle maker and support a local business.
